Description
This project transforms our recent successful descriptive study of a nationally representative sample of Tāngata Whaikaha Māori (Te Ao Mārama) into an ongoing panel survey exploring the determinants of infectious disease resilience and pandemic preparedness for Tāngata Whaikaha Māori.
The proposed approach will permit an in-depth analysis of COVID-19 resilience and pandemic preparedness, tailored for the Māori population and specifically Tāngata Whaikaha Māori. The data that will be collected could also act as a baseline of COVID-19-related health needs and preparedness, and enable comparison between pandemic outbreaks.
Beyond this specific survey, the project will significantly contribute to future pandemic preparedness amongst Tāngata Whaikaha Māori, by establishing infrastructure to enable real-time analysis and therefore timely information, to enable expeditious reaction to future pandemic requirements.
The research team aims to use this project as an opportunity to collect Tāngata Whaikaha Māori data by iwi, which will enable a more localised and targeted pandemic response.
