Description

This research is a collaboration between COMPASS and researchers from Denmark and the USA, which aims to explore and compare inequalities in the uptake of welfare services in each of the countries. The project covers:

  1. Inter-generational correlation in the use of three or more welfare services (welfare benefits, hospital treatments, and criminal justice services), and the mediating effects of cognitive abilities and mental health status;

  2. Risk of experiencing further adverse outcomes such as premature death, familial disruption, and housing instability, for people using welfare services to a high degree; and

  3. Impact, if any, of welfare state reforms in each country on the observed inequalities in service use.
