Description
This project was led by Professor Jennifer Curtin of the Public Policy Institute. The aim was to use administrative data to develop a comprehensive descriptive picture of the status of women in New Zealand. The team used these data to inform a gender equality “scorecard” for use by government agencies. Specifically, it was anticipated that the descriptive analysis would be useful to local government organisations, to Manatū Wāhine | Ministry for Women as part of their “Bringing Gender In” online tool, and to other government and non-government organisations.
This research aided in the development of a New Zealand gender-responsive budgeting strategy, which the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have identified as a valuable tool for addressing inequality.
