Description

This project aims to identify and evaluate the potential utility of key data sources for providing information relating to informal carers and caring activities in Aotearoa New Zealand. A review assessed the availability of New Zealand data that could be used to understand the characteristics of carers, the care they provide, the people they care for, and the impact of caring on their health, social, and economic outcomes.

The review focussed on the evaluation of large survey and government administrative data sources. The final report, submitted to the Ministry of Social Development in January 2025, is intended to be a resource for understanding what data exists pertaining to New Zealand carers, the quality of the data, and potential opportunities for future research and work on the New Zealand Carers’ Strategy or associated action plans.
