Description

This project aims to summarise the data sources available in Aotearoa New Zealand to assess at least one aspect of abuse of older people (also known as elder abuse). This could include:

  • Physical abuse;
  • Sexual abuse;
  • Psychological and emotional abuse;
  • Financial and material abuse;
  • Spiritual abuse;
  • Abandonment; and
  • Neglect.

Conducting this review will help us understand what data exist, their quality, and potential opportunities for epidemiological investigations. This will serve as the first step to informing the design and scope of the planned national prevalence study of abuse of older people, and will help in identifying potential research that may offer good examples of data collection methods, questions, and target populations for that study.
