Description

A Better Start: E Tipu E Rea was one of the 11 National Science Challenges (NSCs) established by the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment in 2014. Its mission was to find better ways to predict, prevent, and treat specific issues in children and teenagers, with the three research pathways of:

  1. Healthy weight;
  2. Successful learning; and
  3. Resilient teens.

COMPASS staff were members of the “Big Data” theme, which Barry Milne led from 2020 to 2024. This theme analysed whole population administrative data (mainly the IDI) to answer key research questions relating to the three research pathways listed above.
