Description

This project, led by Associate Professor Ngaire Kerse at the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care, School of Population Health, involved running a Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial at 41 low-level-dependency residential care homes across Aotearoa New Zealand. COMPASS staff were involved in data management and quality checking.

A total of 682 residents aged 65 years or over were recruited. Just under half of them were offered a goal-setting and individualised activities of daily living activity programme by a gerontology nurse, reinforced by usual healthcare assistants; the rest received social visits. Outcomes were measured describing function, quality of life, falls, depressive symptoms, and hospital admissions.
